Traditions Photography Blog » diapers http://www.traditionsblog.com Wed, 09 Nov 2011 16:04:50 +0000 en hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v=3.2.1 The Diaper Bank of Michiana http://www.traditionsblog.com/2009/03/27/the-diaper-bank-of-michiana/ http://www.traditionsblog.com/2009/03/27/the-diaper-bank-of-michiana/#comments Fri, 27 Mar 2009 13:00:50 +0000 Eileen http://www.traditionsblog.com/?p=69 Have you heard of it?  Probably not.  But, we’re trying to remedy that!  The Diaper Bank of Michiana is a new non-for-profit organization that’s main purpose is to provide diapers for other non-for-profits who service the Michiana area.  So, we collect diapers (Or money to BUY diapers) and then hand those diapers over to local organizations (Hannah’s House, Center for the Homeless, etc) as needed, and then they pass them out to their clients.  We collect baby diapers as well as adult diapers, all sizes and shapes.  We’re just getting up and running.  We are having a “launch” party in May.  Traditions will most likely be a drop point for collecting diapers, and in the near future I’ll be doing a diaper drive to get more diapers in for the organization.  (Think diapers=portraits!  I’ll keep you posted)

When I first heard about the DBofM I just HAD to be a part of it. (Now I’m Secretary!)  Just imagine.  My husband and I just have Penelope in diapers right now. (Thank goodness Jacob has graduated to “big boy undies”!)  We go to Sam’s every other week and get diapers.  They are not a cheap purchase.  Sure, you can use cloth…assuming that you have the time and money to purchase and wash as needed.  But how many moms out there CAN’T afford the simple purchase of diapers?  Not even cloth diapers, just regular disposable ones?  Can you imagine thinking that you can’t clothe your baby’s behind?  It’s just one of those things that shouldn’t even be a question.  Does your baby need that new toy?  No.  But diapers?  Yes.  At our house, it’s a purchase we know we will (and, fortunately, are able to) make as needed.

Do I even need to mention how it would feel as an adult that couldn’t afford Depends, but needed them?

So, why am I rambling on about this?  Because it’s important!  Please be on the look out for the Diaper Bank’s information as it becomes more prevalent.  We’ll be letting you know more about us very soon.  (And we’re taking diaper donations whenever you are ready!)  And, just to reiterate, we’re not collectiong diapers to send to another country.  This is for OUR Michiana.  For OUR neighbors.  Please, share the LUV!
